FACE LIFTS
When considering the diverse roles we play in society now, one may think of that ad from years ago that exclaimed “we’ve come a long way baby” That, of course, depicted a woman with a cigarette, and was before we discovered the dangers of smoking.
We now know that the effects of smoking contribute to an accelerated aging process. Thankfully, cosmetic surgery has also come a long way.
You can now go into your surgeon’s office and come out the same day, in many cases, with a rejuvenated mini-facelift, or “lunchtime lift.”
FACELIFT (RHYTIDECTOMY)
A facelift is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin, tightens underlying tissues and muscle and re-drapes skin on the face and neck. It is often done to can correct skin sagging, marionette lines (the lines around your mouth), jowls and also may correct a double chin. Year after year, thousands of women and men undergo successful facelifts known as the gold standard in facial rejuvenation.
DEEP PLANE FACELIFT
A facelift is defined as a surgical procedure that removes sagging skin and tightens muscle tissue of the face and neck by cutting and stretching the skin. A deep plane facelift is a surgical procedure that tightens the muscles behind the ears and neck.
Facelifts are performed on those who wish to correct the signs of aging or who have suffered trauma to the face and are in need of reconstructive surgery.

Facial Implants
Have you often viewed a photograph of yourself taken at certain angles that leave you wondering, “Is that me?”
We most often look at ourselves front-on in a mirror and don’t recognize certain protruding or flat features of our face until we see them projected in various angles, in the reflection of a glass building as we are walking through city streets, or in the background of a family photo album.
There is nothing wrong with a pointy or flat chin. We are all born with different face shapes and structures. But if you find that you are unhappy with your overall appearance and wish to enhance your beautiful features, there are many options available to correct the outlines that define our face structure and give us balance.
WHAT ARE FACIAL IMPLANTS?
Facial implants are formed of solid materials that are compatible with human tissues. These implants are designed to enhance or augment the structure of your face and change your appearance. For instance, if your chin protrudes to a point or is too small or “flat”, or if you are unhappy with the contours of your cheek bones, you may benefit from facial implants.
The type and size of facial implants that would be best suited for you require an in-depth evaluation of your goals, the features you wish to correct, and your surgeon’s judgment on how implants would effect and define your overall facial appearance.
The most common sites for implants include the cheek, chin and jaw area.
CHEEK IMPLANTS
Cheek implants can be used to correct flaws caused by birth defects or injury to the face. Implants can also increase the projection of the cheekbones by adding volume to areas that may be recessed or flat. An implant can change the shape and contour of your face, by creating a natural balance, or enhancing your facial features.
CHIN IMPLANTS
If your chin is not in proportion to your forehead, or is pointy or flat, whether you have a small, recessed chin or are bothered by the appearance of your profile or overall appearance, a chin implant can provide a more complementing projection to your forehead and mid-face.
JAW IMPLANTS
In some cases, both the jaw and chin contribute to a misaligned facial structure. A weak jaw line can be viewed as less-defined, minimizing the angle and off-setting the balance of your appearance. Jaw implants can increase the width of the lower third of your face, providing distinction and offering definition that enhances other features of your face.
NOSES / RHINOPLASTY
Many people are dissatisfied with certain facial features they are born with, such as lips or eyes, but noses seem to be the most common feature people would like to change about their facial appearance.
Whether you have sinus or allergy issues that result in swelling and enlarging of the nasal cavities, or you just dislike the shape or size of your nose, there are many options available in cosmetic nose restructuring — surgically and non-surgically.
RHINOPLASTY
Surgical Rhinoplasty - There are two primary types of procedures used to surgically enhance or change the shape of your nose:
External Rhinoplasty (Open) - Open Rhinoplasty requires making an incision along the base of the nose and lifting the skin from the cartilaginous, bony structure. External or open rhinoplasty allows for greater exposure for the surgeon to access and perform more detailed work in rhinoplasty surgery.
Endonasal Rhinoplasty (Closed) - Closed Rhinoplasty is performed by making a small incision in the nose and surgically positioning all work without exposing the nasal structure. This allows for no visible scarring.
RHINOPLASTY AND COSMETIC FILLERS
Combined Surgical Rhinoplasty and Cosmetic Fillers - In many cases, Juvederm and Restylane may be used to enhance the improvements made by surgery, especially at the tip of the nose
It is the surgeon’s goal in performing rhinoplasty, or cosmetic nose surgery, to achieve the most natural look for your face structure by ensuring aesthetic blending with your other facial features. Ultimately, consulting with your surgeon about the look you want to achieve — discussing your likes and dislikes prior to scheduling the surgery, will give you the best scenario for your personalized procedure.
EYES
EYELIDS DROOPING?
While applying your make-up, you’ve noticed that the skin has become loose, making it difficult to put on your eye-shadow and your eyelids seem droopy, tired looking.
Many aging adults deal with this daily. It’s not necessary to continue with this frustration, especially if your droopy eyelids seem to actually get in the way of little things, such as being able to wear contact lenses or eyeglasses.
FUNCTIONAL BLEPHAROPLASTY
If you are having difficulties seeing because of your droopy eyes, you may be a candidate for a functional blepharoplasty, which is an eyelid surgery performed for medical reasons.
In many cases, a functional eye lift is performed to remove the loose skin around your upper eyelid, if the eyelid droops so low that it impairs your vision which gets in the way of you driving or performing other visual tasks.
Baggy or droopy upper or lower eyelids can result in an inability to wear contact lenses or eyeglasses.
Another medical eyelid condition known as ptosis could be present, resulting in some of these conditions.
Ptosis and Eyelid Surgery
Ptosis (TOE-sis) is the medical term for drooping of the upper eyelid. Ptosis that is present since birth is called congenital ptosis. This condition may affect one or both eyes and occurs when the edge of the upper eyelid falls (or droops) from its normal position, covering part of the pupil. This can cause obstruction in your vision.
Ptosis may also occur in those who have had trauma or suffered a stroke.
While there are medical reasons and conditions for droopy eyes, often it is just a natural occurrence in the aging process. Cosmetic blepharoplasty is available to those candidates who wish to regain their vibrant, more youthful look.
COSMETIC BLEPHAROPLASTY
Drooping or sagging eyelids can cause a person to look tired or aged. You might consider cosmetic blepharoplasty if you have excessive drooping and sagging of skin around your eyes.
Sagging skin and tired eyes can also be exaggerated when you have other conditions such as puffiness caused by used by allergies or edema.
Prices for this procedure may range from about $2,000 for a simple procedure, to $5,000 for a more complicated procedure.
If you are tired of droopy eyes and would enjoy looking youthful again, or would just enjoy the benefits of enhancing your vibrant eyelids with a little eye shadow on occasion, it may be time to consider a consultation with your surgeon.
FOREHEAD OR BROW LIFT
Over time, the effects of aging begin to show through our most used expressions, such as smiling, laughing, squinting and expressing excitement. Unless we have managed to be expressionless through the years, it’s impossible for the effects of being exposed to sun, wind and life happenings to not pull at our skin. Gravity affects all of us as we being to lose elasticity in our skin, which can result in frown lines, or wrinkling across the forehead.
A brow lift or forehead lift reverses the effects of gravity and tightens the soft tissues of the forehead, restoring a more youthful look and creating a fresh contour to your forehead, upper eyelids and eyebrows.
There are various brow-lift methods, which involve incisions in different locations. Sometimes an endoscope can be used.
As we age, our youthful brow that rests above the orbital rim and gradually arches to a nice lateral end, begins to sag, and it is not uncommon for the brow to assume a flat or horizontal position. A sagging brow can inhibit your facial expressions. Having a brow lift is an endearing method for thousands of people every year. Offering a rejuvenated upper third of the face, many, many people are pleased with the results following a forehead or brow lift.
When Should You Consider a Brow Lift?
• If a sagging eyebrow position has created a sad, tired or grumpy appearance
• If you have deep horizontal creases across the forehead, or frown lines across the top of your nose
• If you have excess skin or fatty tissue that hangs over your eyes
If you are tired of a sad or tired expression not reflecting how you actually feel (this can happen with people as young as 30-something), there are new advances in medical technology and various different methods can be used to perform your forehead or brow lift to improve your appearance.
