WHAT IS RESTYLANE-L?
Restylane-L, a cosmetic derma-filler, is a transparent, lubricating gel of hyaluronic acid which is used to treat facial wrinkles and folds. As we age and our skin thins the gradual decrease in volume leaves folds and creases around our nose and mouth area. These are called nasolabial folds.
WHAT IS HYALURONIC ACID?
Hyaluronic acid is a substance normally produced by the body that gives skin its youthful volume and fullness.
RESTYLANE-L AND YOUR HAPPY FACE
Restylane-L is injected into the areas of facial tissue of the nasolabial folds, where moderate to severe wrinkles and folds appear. Because Restylane-L gel temporarily adds volume to the skin and gives the appearance of a smoother surface, it is also great for thin lips.
DO YOUR LIPS LIE?
There’s an expression called “Divine Proportion” which, from an artist’s viewpoint, describes how we view a beautiful face. Taking the proportion of the lips, draw a line from the corners of your mouth to the middle of your pupil. The corners should align to the middle of your pupil. Now, measure the fullness of your lips. The ideal proportion being that the upper lip accounts for 40% in height to 60% volume from the center of the lower lip.
Of course, this is not the golden rule for everyone, but for those with thin, undefined lips, it marks a great starting point for improving the shape and fullness.
Patients in their 20’s and older may enjoy the benefits of fuller lips after just one treatment, while other patients may require a little more for optimal results. The injection lasts about to six months.
IS RESTYLANE-L SAFE?
The hyaluronic acid used in Restylane-L is a non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid (NASHA), which means it is not derived from animal sources and was approved by the FDA in December 2003.
While Restylane-L is perfectly safe, some patients experience redness and swelling, or tenderness which can last from 7 to 14 days, depending on the area of the injection and the sensitivity level of the skin.
*Restylane-L does contain 0.3% Lidocaine and should not be used by anyone who has a known allergy to Lidocaine.
